Loch Buidhe

Loch Buidhe is a small fresh-water loch on Rannoch Moor in the Highland council area of Scotland. It lies about nine kilometres north of Bridge of Orchy, south of Lochan na Stainge and west of Lochan na h-Achlaise. The A82 road runs across the moor to the west of the loch, while the West Highland Way long-distance path passes by on the same side. The name comes from the Gaelic for ‘yellow loch’. The loch sits in a wide stretch of blanket bog and heather moorland that stretches for many kilometres. Rannoch Moor itself is one of the wildest and least populated parts of the Highlands, with few roads or buildings. The water in the loch is shallow and often takes on a pale yellow tint from the peat in the surrounding ground. Visitors to the area find a quiet, open landscape with few landmarks apart from the loch and the distant hills. The West Highland Way offers walkers long views across the moor towards Ben Starav and other peaks. The A82 provides occasional traffic noise, but the loch remains a peaceful spot for those seeking solitude.
