Filialkirche Siebending

The small Roman Catholic Filialkirche Siebending stands in the village of Siebending within the town of St. Andrä in the Wolfsberg district of Carinthia. It belongs to the parish of St. Andrä in the Lavanttal valley and falls under the deanery of St. Andrä in the Diocese of Gurk-Klagenfurt. The church and its graveyard are protected as a listed monument. A church is recorded here in 1499, and it was likely consecrated by Prince-Bishop Franz Kaspar von Stadion between 1673 and 1704. The present building, a unified Baroque structure from 1680, is surrounded by a cemetery wall. The church has a polygonal chancel and plain straight-headed west and south doorways. A small sacristy is attached to the north side, and the west tower, with round-arched arcades at its base and paired bell-openings above, is topped by an octagonal spire. Inside, the nave is divided into four bays by pilasters and covered by a barrel vault with lunettes along the ridge. A three-bay west gallery rests on slender stone columns and is vaulted in plaster ribs. The round-arched chancel arch leads to a single-bay choir with a cross-vault and matching pilaster work. The high altar, dating from about 1660 with later Baroque enrichment, carries statues of Saints Sebastian and Roch. Two side altars from around 1700 have richly carved acanthus frames, and the late Gothic carved figure of Saint Sebastian dates from the late 16th century.
