The city wall at St Andrä stands in the small town of St Andrä in the Lavant valley of southern Austria. It guards the eastern edge of the old town where the land drops steeply toward the Lavant river. Only fragments survive today, yet these include stretches of curtain wall and a round tower in the south.

The wall’s history reaches back to the 14th century when rebuilding began after raids in 1289 and 1297. In 1480 the town fell to Leonhard II of Kollnitz, and reconstruction followed between 1495 and 1519 under Bishop Leonhard of Keutschach. Earlier still, a prehistoric rampart once crowned Dachberg and a Roman farm occupied Lindhof.

Visitors can walk the surviving masonry and peer through the arrow slits of the southern section. The round tower offers a quiet vantage point over the river and the surrounding hills. The wall’s eastern line, now lost, once turned the steep slope itself into part of the defence.
