Bwlch yr Adwy Round Barrow

A round burial mound stands on a ridge above the Nant-y-Moch reservoir in the hills of Ceredigion. Built by Neolithic or Bronze Age people for ceremonies or burials, the grassy circle measures twelve metres across and rises just under a metre. A shallow dip marks its centre where the earth was dug out long ago. Cadw lists this mound as SAM CD251 among nearly four hundred similar sites across Wales, more than any other type of ancient monument. Such round barrows first appeared around 3000 BC and were raised until the end of the Bronze Age, with most built between 2400 and 1500 BC. Their purpose faded as burial chambers and cairns became common across the landscape. Visitors reach the quiet hilltop by a short walk from the reservoir car park. The wide moorland views stretch over water and rolling hills, while the low mound itself shows the simple shape of a Neolithic grave. Stone walls and bracken frame the site, and the wind carries the sound of sheep and distant water.
