Hochfirst

The Hochfirst is a wooded mountain in the Black Forest, standing between Saig and Titisee-Neustadt. It marks the border between the towns of Lenzkirch and Titisee-Neustadt. The mountain reaches 1,190.1 metres above sea level. A restaurant and an observation tower sit on its summit. From the top, visitors can see the nearby Titisee and the Feldberg. The Hochfirst Tower, built in 1890, is a 25-metre-high steel lattice structure. It stands on a natural stone base that once supported an earlier wooden tower. The tower is unusual because it is held by guy wires. It carries antennas for microwave and mobile phone signals. Since 1989 it has been protected as a listed building. The Hochfirst can be reached by several walking routes. The Freiburg–Lake Constance Black Forest Trail and the Central Way both lead to the summit. The shortest path starts from Saig. In winter, the mountain offers a ski jump that hosts World Cup events. A 9.9-kilometre cross-country ski trail and a toboggan run also run down its slopes.
