Stuttgart-Degerloch water tower

The Wasserturm Stuttgart-Degerloch is a water tower completed in 1912 on the Bopser hill in Stuttgart. It stands near a more recent water reservoir added in 2008. Though named after Degerloch, it belongs to the Stuttgart-Süd district. The tower replaced an earlier 1897 structure that stood close by. The city’s building office and the Stuttgart Eisenbetonbaugesellschaft designed and built it between 1911 and 1912. After the First World War the Stuttgart municipal waterworks took over its operation. Its importance grew beyond Degerloch as the city’s water supply network expanded. Visitors see a cylindrical tower 28 metres high with a 10.9-metre diameter. The water tank holds 400 cubic metres. The address is Jahnstraße 85, a quiet spot on the Bopser. The surrounding area offers views over southern Stuttgart and the Filder plain.
