Twenty-five stops along two axes: Museum Island, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999, with its five buildings dating from 1830 to 1930 — and the Hohenzollern palaces, from Charlottenburg by way of Bellevue to Schönhausen. Between them lie the sites of the division.

The best-known of them is shut. The Pergamonmuseum, until recently the city's most-visited museum, has been closed completely since 23 October 2023. The north wing and central section with the Pergamon Altar are due to reopen in spring 2027, the south wing with the Ishtar Gate only in 2037.

Much of this stands for the second time. The Berlin Palace was pulled down in 1950/51; the Bundestag voted to rebuild it in 2002, and between 2013 and 2020 three Baroque facades after Andreas Schlüter went up, with a modern fourth side by Franco Stella and the Humboldt Forum inside. The Neues Museum lay in ruins for 70 years and reopened on 16 October 2009. On Bernauer Strasse the Berlin Wall Memorial preserves 1.4 kilometres of the border strip; at least 140 people died at the Wall. Dani Karavan's memorial to the murdered Sinti and Roma was dedicated on 24 October 2012.
