Walcherfall
The Walcherfall is a five-tiered cascade waterfall in the Glockner mountain group of Salzburg. It stands in the Hoher Tenn massif, fed by the Walcher Bach stream that begins at 2,300 metres on the Walcher Kees glacier. The total drop reaches 520 metres, making it Austria’s tallest waterfall. The path starts at Ferleiten on the Grossglockner High Alpine Road near the Tauernhaus inn. From there the Wasserfallweg trail climbs past the main tiers, passing Walcher Grundalm at 1,590 metres and Walcher Hochalm at 1,853 metres. The route offers views of the glacier above and the valley below. Visitors follow a well-marked mountain track that crosses alpine meadows and rocky sections. In clear weather the spray from the falls catches the sunlight, and the surrounding peaks frame the scene. The route is rugged and best suited to fit walkers prepared for steep uphill sections.
