Spadenberg
The Spadenberg is a 1,000-metre peak in the Flysch zone of the Upper Austrian Pre-Alps. It stands east of Laussa in Upper Austria, forming a striking ridge with the Plattenberg, Geierkogel and Glasenberg. The northern slope drops steeply to the Kleinramingtal, covered mainly by dense beech forest. The ridge runs between Laussa in the west and Maria Neustift in the east. The mountain is worth the journey for walkers seeking quiet high paths. The Voralpenweg (04) and the Mariazeller Weg (06) both cross the summit area. A car park at 880 metres, just east of the Plattenberg, gives easy access to simple footpaths that reach the top in about thirty minutes. No summit cross marks the spot, and the dense woodland keeps views shut in. Visitors find a gentle, wooded dome without a view. About fifty metres east of the highest point stands a wayside cross. The paths are straightforward and lead along the ridge without any technical difficulty. The surrounding beech woods give the walk a peaceful, sheltered feel. The ridge itself offers few landmarks, only the steady climb and the quiet of the forest.
