Schwarzenberg

The Schwarzenberg rises to 1,033 metres in the Türnitzer Alpen south-east of Loich. Its summit sits under forest cover, so the best views come from the alpine meadow on the southern slope. A small settlement called Schwarzenberg clings to the south-west flank, while the Schwarzengraben valley to the north leads walkers toward Soisgegend. Three kilometres south the Eisenstein marks the gateway into the Türnitztal valley. The mountain’s modest height rewards a gentle climb from Loich rather than a strenuous ascent. The meadow clearing below the treeline offers sweeping vistas across the surrounding ranges. Local hikers know the Schwarzengraben as a reliable route linking two valleys without steep climbs. The Eisenstein’s rock formations signal the change of scenery as the land drops toward the Türnitztal. Visitors find a quiet upland world of spruce and beech woods punctuated by clearings. The Schwarzenberg settlement consists of a handful of houses and a small inn. Trails wind through the meadows and along the flanks, giving easy access to the wider network of alpine paths. From the meadow’s edge the horizon stretches over rolling forested hills and distant peaks.
