Schloss Eicks
Schloss Eicks stands in the village of Eicks, part of Mechernich in the Euskirchen district of North Rhine-Westphalia. It is a Renaissance mansion set beside a moat, with medieval parts still visible. The castle first appears in records from the 14th century, when it belonged to Johann von Eicks and served as a fortified water castle. After the von Eicks family died out, the property passed through inheritance and sales to new owners. In the 16th century Jürgen von Syberg-Wischlingen acquired the site. A new manor was built in 1680 by Hermann Dietrich von Syberg, using surviving medieval sections. The result is a two-part complex: a three-winged castle and a separate manor, both enclosed by the moat. The Syberg family has owned the castle for more than five centuries and keeps it as private property. Visitors cannot enter the castle itself, but parts of it may be rented for events. The moat and the surviving medieval sections remain visible from outside. The setting combines Renaissance architecture with earlier medieval features, all framed by the surrounding village of Eicks.
