The Scheffelsberg is a wooded mountain in the western Saxon Ore Mountains, just south of the village of Jugel. Its summit stands at 980 metres and the Czech-German border crosses the very top. The Czech name for the peak is Korec. In winter a marked cross-country ski trail runs from Henneberg up the slopes and over the border. When the sky clears, walkers can see across the Saxon-Bohemian upper Ore Mountains from nearby Buchschachtelberg.

The mountain is worth the journey for its quiet forest paths and the chance to stand on the international frontier. The 1928 Wander- und Wintersportkarte shows the route that skiers still follow today. The border itself is marked only by a simple line on the ground. Views extend over rolling ridges into Bohemia when the weather allows.

Visitors find a network of woodland tracks leading to the summit clearing. The border post is a modest wooden post with two plaques. In winter the ski trail is groomed and passes through silent spruce woods. On clear days the view stretches to the Fichtelberg and the Bohemian central massif. The air is cool even in summer and the scent of pine fills the paths.
