The Säuling is a 2,047-metre mountain on the German-Austrian border in the Ammergau Alps. Its sharp, pyramid-shaped outline rises steeply above the rolling foothills between Füssen and Pfronten. Seen from the north, the peak stands out clearly against the skyline long before the ground rises.

The mountain commands wide views from both sides. From Germany, the eye travels over Hohenschwangau and Neuschwanstein castles to the lakes of the Ostallgäu. Austrian slopes drop into the wild Lech valley near Reutte. The Säulinghaus hut at 1,693 metres, built from 1925, offers a resting place halfway up.

Two main routes lead to the top. The gentler path starts at the Säulinghaus and follows a marked trail with short protected sections near the summit. A longer approach from Hohenschwangau passes the Wildsulzhütte and crosses the north-east crags before returning by the same hut. Many memorial crosses recall the lives lost on these slopes, especially among young climbers.
