Roncio
Roncio is a small hamlet in the Val di Sole valley, part of Mezzana municipality in Trentino-Südtirol. The village sits on the left bank of the Noce River, surrounded by steep meadows and dense forests. Its name appears in records as early as 1292, when it was called Runtio. The settlement developed around the old mule track that once linked the valley to the Non Valley. Today, only a few stone houses remain, giving the place a quiet, timeless feel. The main reason to visit Roncio is the church of San Romedio Eremita. Built in 1591, this modest stone church stands on a small terrace above the village. It honours Saint Romedius, a hermit who lived nearby in the 11th century. The church is simple inside, with a single nave and a small altar. Pilgrims still come to light candles and leave small offerings. From the church, a short path leads to a viewpoint over the valley. The view stretches from the Brenta Dolomites in the east to the Ortler group in the west. In spring, wild narcissi bloom along the slopes. The silence is broken only by the sound of the river below and the occasional church bell.
