The Rodigtturm stands on the Rodigt, a rocky spur above the small town of Nossen in the district of Meißen. It rises from the edge of the Mittelsächsisches Hügelland where the Freiberger Mulde carves its valley. The tower is part of the old town’s ring of hills that once framed the medieval settlement.

The Rodigt was a Slavic fortification before the first stone castle appeared in the 12th century. Its name comes from the Sorbian word for ‘nose’, describing the jutting rock that gives the hill its shape. The tower itself was built in the 19th century to serve as a signal station for the railway lines that made Nossen a regional hub.

Visitors climb the stone steps to the viewing platform at the top. From there the whole valley of the Freiberger Mulde unfolds, stretching toward the Zellwald forest. On clear days Dresden’s skyline appears 31 kilometres away to the east. The surrounding hills—Steinbusch, Pfarrberg and Kirschberg—frame the view, linking modern Nossen with the medieval past.
