Regenstein
Regenstein is a mountain peak in the Austrian Alps. It stands in the Lienz district of Tyrol, 300 kilometres southwest of Vienna. The summit reaches 2,891 metres above sea level, rising 342 metres above the surrounding terrain. Its base spreads across 8.2 kilometres. The land around the peak is mostly steep and rugged. The area is sparsely populated, with only 26 people per square kilometre. The nearest town is Matrei in Osttirol, 15.5 kilometres to the north. Grassland covers most of the slopes and valleys nearby. The western side of the mountain is less steep, with gentler hills. Visitors find wide views across the high Alps from the summit. The grassy slopes offer gentle walks for those who do not climb to the top. The quiet surroundings make it a good place to escape the busier valleys below.
