Pulverturm

The Pulverturm in Pasewalk is a round brick defensive tower from the medieval town wall. It stands at the eastern end of Mühlenstraße in the north-eastern part of the town centre. The tower has several storeys, a bold battlemented parapet and an octagonal roof. During the full restoration finished in 2015 the roof was re-plastered. The walls are pierced by many irregularly placed arrow slits. A stork has built its nest on the roof. Built to store gunpowder for the town, the tower rises 27.4 metres high with an outer diameter of eight metres and an inner diameter of 4.3 metres. The walls are 1.85 metres thick and the parapet is 1.8 metres high. On the northern side a single-storey brick extension joins the tower. Visitors see the tower’s heavy brickwork and the steep, narrow staircase inside. The octagonal roof with its fresh plaster gleams above the battlements. Outside, the stork keeps watch from its nest while the brick extension shelters a small display. The surrounding streets show the tower’s place in the old defences.
