Pinner tube station

Pinner station stands in the quiet north-west London suburb of Pinner, a place shaped by Victorian growth and early 20th-century Metro-land expansion. The single-storey brick building on the up platform dates from 1885, while the down platform’s matching yellow-brick structures were added during the 1950s and 1960s. Step-free access was completed in 2008 after earlier delays, and a footbridge built in 2002 now links both platforms. The station sits on the Metropolitan line between Northwood Hills and North Harrow, in fare zone 5. Several local bus routes fan out from here, including the H12 which reaches Hatch End railway station.
The station’s history reflects wider shifts in London’s transport and housing. When the Metro-land project began in 1915, houses near Pinner were built to a higher £1,000 minimum price, unlike cheaper homes elsewhere. The original building remains locally listed by Harrow Council, and the ticket hall still carries the marks of earlier eras. During weekday peaks, an extra exit gate opens onto a small car park and the nearby library and synagogue. The line itself carries off-peak services every fifteen minutes northbound to Watford, Amersham and Chesham, and southbound to Baker Street and Aldgate.
Visitors find a straightforward station set among suburban streets. The long southbound platform has benches and a small shelter, while the northbound side offers views across the tracks to the original brick façade. The footbridge provides a clear route between platforms, and the lifts make access easy for all. Outside, buses wait at the stop on Station Approach, ready to take passengers on to Golders Green, Harrow or Ruislip Lido. The station’s quiet surroundings and regular trains make it a practical starting point for exploring Pinner’s leafy lanes and local shops.
