Pihapper

The Pihapper is a sharp, slender peak in the Venedigergruppe of the Hohe Tauern range. It stands on the border between the Salzburg villages of Mittersill and Hollersbach, rising steeply above the Salzach valley. The mountain’s exposed position makes it a prime lookout point in every season. Walkers and climbers often choose it for day tours. The final ridge to the summit is narrow and airy.
The climb from Mittersill starts in the southern part of town at the Klausgasse–Mongweg trailhead. It follows a well-marked path past the Mong inn and across the Aigner High Meadow through dense forest to the Platte at 1 788 metres. From there the route turns north along a long ridge to the Pflugsberg at 2 414 metres. The last section to the top crosses high-alpine ground and has short stretches of fixed rope where foothold and a head for heights are needed. The total time from Mittersill is about four and a half hours.
The alternative route begins at the Berghof inn above the Hollersbachtal at 1 200 metres. It leads up to the Pölsenalm at 1 704 metres before joining the same ridge that comes from Mittersill. From the Pflugsberg the two paths share the final narrow crest to the summit. Both approaches offer wide views over the Salzach valley and the surrounding peaks. The mountain’s airy crest and the high meadows below make it a favourite among summer hikers.
