Kellerjoch

The Kellerjoch is a 2,344-metre mountain in the Tuxer Alps of Tirol. It stands north of Schwaz in the Lower Inn Valley and serves as the town’s local mountain. The ridge runs from the eastern Metzenjoch, where cliffs appear, through the Kreuzjoch with its summit chapel to the Kuhmesser. The chapel sits on the main peak at 2,344 metres, reached by a partly cable-assisted path from the new Kellerjochhütte at 2,237 metres. The mountain offers several climbing routes up from Schwaz in the Inn Valley. A three-stage chairlift climbs to the Arbeserkogl, a lower summit at 2,026 metres, where the Hecherhaus mountain inn sits at 1,887 metres. In summer only the final section of the lift operates. The old Kellerjochhütte, once reached by road for three-quarters of the walk from Schwaz, still marks an earlier way up. Visitors find the summit chapel on the Kreuzjoch and sweeping views across the Inn Valley and the surrounding Alps. The Hecherhaus provides food and lodging below the lift station, while the Kellerjochhütte offers shelter near the top. The contrast between the rugged eastern flanks and the gentler western slopes gives the mountain its varied character.
