Keeskogel
The Keeskogel is a mountain in the Venediger Group of the High Tauern, standing 4 kilometres northwest of the Großvenediger. At 3,291 metres, it rises above the surrounding peaks in Salzburg. The route from the Kürsinger Hut to the summit is marked and glacier-free, making it a manageable climb in dry conditions. The ascent takes about an hour and a half to two hours, though sure-footedness is essential. In clear weather, the view from the top includes the north face of the Großvenediger and the glaciated landscape of the Obersulzbachkees and Untersulzbachkees. The mountain is recognised in the Alpine Club Guide by Willi End and Hubert Peterka, which details routes in the Venedigergruppe. An Alpine Club map, sheet 36, covers the area at a scale of 1:25,000. These resources help climbers plan their route and understand the terrain. The Kürsinger Hut provides a base for those attempting the summit, offering a place to rest before the final push. From the summit, walkers can see the main chain of the Tauern stretching across the horizon. The glaciated valleys below contrast with the rocky ridges nearby. The route back to the hut follows the same path, allowing for a straightforward descent. The mountain’s position in the High Tauern makes it a notable peak for those exploring the region. Its accessibility and striking views draw climbers and hikers each season.
