Hexenstein

The Hexenstein stands on the Kollmitzberg near Ardagger in Lower Austria. It is a tall granite block partly covered by bushes, with a hollowed-out bowl on top formed by weathering. Steps cut into the rock help climbers reach the summit. The stone once served for ritual purposes, and today it offers a fine all-round view. The site is linked to local legends and historical research. A themed walking trail around the Kollmitzberg describes its past, and a 1986 Heimatkunde supplement by Karl Kneissl records further details. The granite’s surface shows clear signs of human shaping over time. Visitors reach the Hexenstein along a path through the surrounding woodland. The stone’s summit is small but flat enough to stand on, giving wide views across the countryside. The steps and bowl remain clearly visible, marking the place’s old significance.
