Statue of Henry Campbell-Bannerman

A bronze statue of Henry Campbell-Bannerman stands on Corn Exchange Road in Stirling, Scotland. The work of Paul Raphael Montford was put up in 1913 to honour the former Prime Minister and Liberal MP for Stirling Burghs. It sits beside Stirling railway station on a small paved area. Historic Environment Scotland recognises the statue as a listed building. Campbell-Bannerman led the Liberal Party for a decade and served as Prime Minister from 1905 to 1908. His government introduced major reforms such as old-age pensions and free school meals. The statue captures him in formal attire, one hand resting on a ledger. Montford’s design was chosen after a public competition. Visitors find a dignified figure on a stone pedestal set back from the pavement. The bronze surface shows the folds of his coat and the creases of his trousers. Around the base, the paving stones are level with the road, making the statue easy to approach. Stirling Castle overlooks the scene from its crag above the town.
