Israelitischer Friedhof Oberwart

The Israelitische Friedhof Oberwart stands in the town of Oberwart in Burgenland. It is a protected Jewish cemetery and one of the few remains of a once-thriving Jewish community there, along with the former synagogue and rabbi’s house. The cemetery was established in the inter-war years as part of the municipal graveyard. Its rows of gravestones mark the history of the local Jewish population before and during the 20th century. Visitors find a quiet, orderly section of the larger cemetery. The graves bear inscriptions in Hebrew and German, and the oldest date from the 1920s. The site is kept simple and respectful, with low stone markers aligned in straight paths.
