Katholische Pfarrkirche Oberwart

The Catholic parish church in Oberwart stands in the town of Oberwart in Burgenland. It is also called the Easter Church and is dedicated to the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. The building is protected as a listed monument and forms part of the Pinkafeld deanery in the Diocese of Eisenstadt. Architects Günther Domenig and Eilfried Huth designed the church, which was completed between 1967 and 1969. Bishop Stephan László consecrated the church on 19 October 1969. The complex includes both the church and the parish centre, built using fair-faced concrete and marienglas. The church’s irregular floor plan supports an octagonal central space with striking spatial effects. Inside, the central section is covered by a square vault while the transepts have rectangular Platzl vaults. A modernised Madonna statue from the early 18th century stands in the lower church. The golden cross and several panel paintings by the Carinthian artist Valentin Oman were added to the sanctuary in 1989. The organ, built in 1971 with 18 registers, was constructed by Orgelbau Pirchner.
