Meall na Aighean

Meall nan Aighean is a mountain in Perth and Kinross, rising to 981 metres. Its Gaelic name means either ‘big rock’ or ‘hill of the hinds’. The peak belongs to a ring of four Munros north of the hamlet of Invervar in Glen Lyon. Locals sometimes call the group the Glen Lyon Horseshoe after its shape. The mountain has two nearly equal tops separated by a shallow col, the north-east top standing seven metres higher. To the east lie two lower outcrops, 904 metres and 822 metres high, which can hide the main summit when seen from Glen Lyon. Steep grassy slopes studded with crags drop south into the glen, while the north-east face is a sheer, rocky wall above Gleann Muilinn. Walkers often tackle all four Munros in one 18-kilometre circuit. A longer 20-kilometre route climbs from Fortingall at the north end of Loch Tay through Gleann Muilinn. The summit offers wide views across the surrounding Munro group and down to Glen Lyon.
