Tech Gate Vienna

Tech Gate Vienna stands in the 22nd district of Vienna, beside the Danube. Built between 1999 and 2005, it forms part of the Donau City area. Two glass towers rise from the site, one finished in 2001 at 26 metres, the other in 2005 at 75 metres. Wilhelm Holzbauer and Sepp Frank designed the complex. The taller tower holds nineteen floors while the lower has seven. Together they provide nearly fifty-four thousand square metres of floor space. Inside, start-ups and established companies share space with research institutes. The Austrian Institute of Technology operates here alongside the Telecommunications Research Center Vienna. VRVis Research Center also occupies laboratories in the towers. Four stages regularly host events that focus on new technologies. These gatherings draw engineers, investors and students to the site. Visitors find wide corridors lined with glass and steel. Lifts travel the full height of the taller tower in under a minute. From the top floors, views stretch across the Danube to the city centre. The Danube Canal runs nearby, lined with cafés and cycle paths. In the evenings, lights from the towers reflect on the water. The area remains quiet on weekends, making it easy to walk between the buildings.
