Hochhaus Neue Donau

The Hochhaus Neue Donau stands in Vienna’s Donau City district beside the Danube. Completed in 2001, it is a 150-metre residential skyscraper with 34 floors. The tower is the third tallest building in Austria and houses offices, apartments and penthouses. Its design was created by the Austrian-Australian architect Harry Seidler. The building’s elongated triangular shape maximises views of the water for every home. Inside, floors eight to fifteen contain two- and three-room apartments. Above these are one- and two-room flats, while the top floor holds penthouses. The lower floors include rental offices and a constantly staffed porter’s office. Two basement levels provide parking for 220 cars beneath the plaza. A vertical core of lifts and utilities links the two wings and the seven-storey office wing. The white aluminium cassette façade is divided into four sections forming a triangular centre. The longer wing faces south toward the Danube, the shorter one points east toward Kaiserwasser and Alte Donau. The ground level entrance leads to the porter’s office and lifts. The plaza outside offers space to walk and view the tower’s height.
