Schloss Leutstetten

Schloss Leutstetten stands on a hill above the Leutstettener Moos near Starnberg. The Renaissance-style building includes a small enclosed park and is listed as a monument. Nearby early modern remains beneath the surface are also protected. The castle was built around 1552 by Hans Urmiller, a Bavarian councillor to Duke Albrecht V. Later owners included Ludwig III of Bavaria, who turned the estate into a model farm. The Wittelsbach family used it for births and deaths, including Franz Maria Luitpold in 1875 and Rupprecht in 1955. The square three-storey building has corner towers on its south front. Carl Sattler added side extensions in the 1930s. The English-style park terraces date from the 18th and early 19th centuries, while 19th-century renovations updated the interiors.
