Millmoor

Millmoor is a football stadium in Rotherham, South Yorkshire. It opened in the 1890s and became the home of Rotherham County in 1907. Rotherham United played there from 1925 until 2008. The ground once held around 8,300 spectators. It hosted notable events like the first leg of the 1961 Football League Cup final. Rotherham beat Aston Villa 2–0 in that match. Millmoor’s history includes memorable matches and community events. In 2007, the club marked 100 years at the ground with a special game against Notts County. The Railway End stand, with its narrow access alley, was famous for its atmosphere. A half-built main stand remains from an abandoned redevelopment. Greyhound racing also took place there in the early 1930s. Visitors to Millmoor find a mix of old and new structures. The Tivoli End and Railway End still stand, though the main stand is unfinished. The Millmoor Lane stand offers a small covered area for home fans. The ground is now used for local youth football. Its railway-themed stands recall the closed Westgate station nearby. The site remains a landmark in Rotherham’s sporting past.
