New York Stadium

The New York Stadium stands in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, on land once called New York. The stadium opened in 2012 and belongs to Rotherham United Football Club. It replaced the club’s former ground after a dispute with the owner. The site had housed the Guest and Chrimes foundry for nearly 150 years. The foundry made brass stop taps used in fire hydrants, including those in New York City. The stadium has hosted major events beyond club matches. It welcomed the England women’s team in 2016 and again for UEFA Women’s Euro 2022. The ground also staged youth internationals, including an Under-19 victory over Italy. Construction cost about £17 million and created a 12,000-seat venue. Sponsorship deals have given stands names like the KCM Recycling Stand and the Eric Twigg Foods Pukka Pies Stand. Inside, the West Stand holds the executive 1925 Lounge and the players’ entrance. The North Stand acts as the kop, painted with the club’s initials. The East Stand includes balconies for disabled spectators. The South Stand is reserved for away fans. A large video screen was added in 2014. The stadium’s record attendance reached 11,541 for a match against Sheffield Wednesday.
