Southernmost Cairn on Pen Plynlimon-Fawr

The southernmost round cairn on Pen Plynlimon-Fawr stands in the Blaenrheidol community of Ceredigion. It dates from the end of the Stone Age into the start of the Bronze Age. Its purpose was likely tied to burial rites and religious ceremonies. The site is registered with Cadw and carries the SAM number CD150. Local people built this cairn along with other ancient monuments. They also constructed chambered tombs, burial mounds, stone circles, hill forts, Irish huts and standing stones. The cairn is distinct from ring cairns, which are a different type of monument. Visitors find a simple grassy mound on the moorland ridge. The surrounding landscape stretches across open hills with sweeping views. The cairn blends into the upland terrain, marked only by its shape and location. It offers a quiet place to reflect on the distant past.
