Y Garn

Y Garn stands on the Plynlimon massif in Ceredigion, Wales, as the fourth highest peak of the range. It is a subsidiary summit of Pen Pumlumon Fawr, surrounded by the Cambrian Mountains. The top is marked by a large shelter cairn built inside an ancient burial cairn. From here, Rhos Fawr and Drygarn Fawr can be seen to the south. To the north, the views stretch to Aran Fawddwy, Glasgwm and Tarren y Gesail. The mountain offers wide views over Nant-y-moch Reservoir to the north. Smaller summits such as Drosgol at 550 m and Banc Llechwedd-mawr at 560 m also appear in the distance. The massif includes several Marilyns, a category of hills in Britain defined by relative height. These Marilyns add to the rugged character of the landscape. A visitor reaches the summit along upland paths that cross heather moorland. The shelter cairn provides a sheltered spot to rest and take in the views. The surrounding area is quiet, with few buildings or roads. The high ground gives a clear sense of space across the Cambrian Mountains.
