Sankt Michael

The parish church of Eberschwang stands in the market town of Eberschwang in Upper Austria. A Roman Catholic church dedicated to Saint Michael, it belongs to the deanery of Ried im Innkreis in the diocese of Linz. The building has held listed-monument status for decades. Its oldest written mention dates from 1075. The nave is Gothic, single-aisled, four bays long and covered by a net-ribbed vault. After 1951 two side aisles were added to the eastern bays. The three-bay choir ends in a three-eighths closure and is also net-ribbed. The tower carries an eight-sided pointed spire. Wooden organ-loft railings and Gothic door fittings survive from the medieval period. The high altar and the right side altar are neo-Gothic. The altarpiece of the cross altar was painted by Franz Xaver Gürtler in 1802. A bell cast in 1765 hangs in the tower. The organ, built in 1978 by Pirchner using a Rococo case from 1794, has mechanical slider chests, two manuals, a pedal and nineteen stops.
