Cultural heritage D-3-6239-0043 in Püchersreuth

The Alte Schloss once stood on a low mound just north-west of St Peter and Paul’s parish church in Püchersreuth, a village in the Upper Palatinate. The site is marked as a medieval castle mound and protected as a monument under number D-3-6239-0043. Written records show the place was already linked to local nobles in the 12th century, when a ministerial called Perengar served the counts of Sulzbach. The Floß family bought the estate in 1495 and built a new castle in 1584 beside the old one. After a division in 1585, Hans Floß remained in the medieval stronghold while his brother Paul moved into the newer building. By 1763 the property belonged to the Korb family, who erected a Catholic schoolhouse that still stands in Hauptstraße. Today the castle earthworks have been covered by modern houses, but the old bridge and moat traces survived until a fire in 1954. Visitors can walk the same route that once crossed the bridge from the castle towards the village centre. The church and the former schoolhouse in the main street give a sense of the place’s layered history.
