Llanerchymedd railway station

Llanerchymedd railway station lies on the former Anglesey Central Railway between Gaerwen and Amlwch. The single platform stood on the east side of the track with a small station building beside it. Goods sheds and sidings formed a small yard on the same side, handling freight for decades. The line closed to passengers in 1964 under the Beeching cuts but freight trains ran until 1993. The station building survived and in 2010 became a heritage centre, museum and community café. Plans exist to restore at least part of the branch for future passenger use. Visitors find the restored station building now houses displays about the line’s history. A café offers light refreshments while local groups use rooms for meetings. The quiet platform and nearby lanes recall the railway’s earlier role in island life.
