Fernie Castle

Fernie Castle stands in the rolling farmland of north-east Fife, just east of the village of Letham. Built in the sixteenth century as an L-plan tower house, it was later enlarged with a three-storey block and a round tower at one corner. The castle’s oldest part, the fourteenth-century tower house, still forms its core. After a recent renovation it now operates as a hotel and wedding venue. The setting is peaceful farmland, yet it is only a short drive from larger towns. The castle is worth the journey for its well-preserved historic fabric and its modern role as a wedding venue. It can host up to 180 guests in a single celebration. The 2023 acquisition by the Chinese real estate company MDJM Ltd brought new investment and careful restoration. The sixteenth-century extensions and the medieval tower house remain clearly visible. Its quiet location makes it a discreet yet impressive place for special occasions. Inside, visitors find oak-panelled rooms, a grand staircase and modern hotel bedrooms. The round tower offers views across the surrounding fields. The lawns and mature trees provide a calm setting for outdoor photographs. The castle’s historic walls and newer additions sit comfortably together. Weddings and other events take place in the refurbished interiors and on the terraces.
