Woodside Park tube station

Woodside Park station stands in the quiet northern London suburb of Woodside Park. It sits on the High Barnet branch of the Northern line, between Totteridge & Whetstone and West Finchley. The station is above ground, with both platforms easily reached from the street. A large car park occupies the site of the old coal yard beside the station. A Victorian post box is built into the front wall of the main entrance. The station opened in 1872 as Torrington Park and was renamed within weeks. It became part of the London & North Eastern Railway in 1923. Northern line trains first served the station in 1940, replacing the earlier service. The building still shows its original Victorian style. In 1992 a bomb exploded in the car park during the afternoon rush hour, but no one was hurt. Visitors find a straightforward station layout. The main entrance and ticket office lie at the end of Woodside Park Road, next to the car park. A separate entrance on Station Road leads to the northbound platform. The southbound platform is reached from the main entrance. The area around the station remains peaceful, with local buses and nearby roads providing easy access.
