West Finchley tube station

West Finchley is a London Underground station in the Finchley area of the London Borough of Barnet. It sits on the High Barnet branch of the Northern line, between Woodside Park and Finchley Central stations. The station opened in 1933 to serve new housing in the district. Its modest buildings and footbridge came from stations in northern England. The footbridge may have been taken from the Barnsley Coal Railway, which closed in 1930. The station joined the London Underground network in 1940 as part of the Northern Heights project. Northern line trains began serving West Finchley that year. After a brief period with two operators, the LNER service ended in 1941. Today the station is in London fare zone 4. Trains run every three to seven minutes during the day. The station has a simple footbridge and small ticket hall. It connects to several London bus routes, including 13, 125 and 221. The area around the station is residential with local shops nearby. The station’s modest design reflects its origins as a local stop.
