Lambretta Scooter Museum

The Lambretta Scooter Museum stands in Weston-super-Mare, Somerset, on the west coast of England. It holds sixty-one Lambretta models, one from nearly every year between October 1947 and May 1971. The collection begins with three of the first Model A scooters produced in 1947. It also includes Lambro three-wheelers, Lambretta mopeds and related automobilia. Stuart Lanning bought the shop and museum in 2006 after they had been closed for a long time. After refurbishment the museum reopened on 9 August 2008. The exhibits were arranged to show the full range of Lambretta’s production over twenty-four years. In 2013 the museum was offered for sale once more. The private collection remains the only one of its kind dedicated entirely to Lambretta scooters. Visitors find the models displayed in a single room that feels like a workshop. Each scooter stands on the floor or on low stands, allowing close inspection of details. The walls hold photographs, posters and documents from the 1940s to the 1970s. The scent of oil and metal lingers in the air, adding to the workshop atmosphere. Outside, Weston-super-Mare’s seafront is a short walk away.
