Hahnkampl

Hahnkampl is a 2,080-metre peak in the Sonnjoch group of the Karwendel range in Tirol. The mountain stands above the Eng valley, where the Alpengasthof Eng marks the start of the usual route. Walkers follow a broad track past the Binsalm alpine hut and over the Binssattel col to reach the summit. The climb from the inn takes about two hours fifteen minutes and rises 880 metres. The route is graded as an easy mountain hike, but the alternative from Falzthurntal via Gramaialm-Hochleger is steeper. Those who choose the full ridge traverse must be sure-footed and free of fear of heights. The summit offers views across the Karwendel’s jagged crests and the wide Inn valley below. At the top stands a small summit cross beside a patch of dwarf shrubs and limestone slabs. On clear days the glare of the Zugspitze and the Wilder Kaiser can be seen to the north. The descent to the western Lamsenjoch col takes about two hours and follows a narrow path along the flank of the ridge.
