Predigtstuhl

The Predigtstuhl is a 1,024-metre mountain in the Vorderer Bayerischer Wald. It stands in the forested ridge between the Pröller and the Hirschenstein, high above the Danube valley near Bogen. The mountain is known for its steep slopes and dense woodland, which give it a quiet, rugged feel. Walkers reach the summit by several routes starting from St Englmar or Kollnburg. The European long-distance path E8 crosses the top, linking the region’s peaks. In winter the mountain becomes part of the large Sankt Englmar ski area, which also covers the nearby Pröller and ranks among the most important in the Bayerischer Wald. Two ski areas operate on the Predigtstuhl: the Predigtstuhl Arena and the Markbuchenlifte. The Arena’s main run has snowmaking and floodlights for evening skiing. From the top there are wide views over the Danube valley and across the surrounding forest.
