The house at Graf-Wilhelm-Straße 4 stands in Bregenz’s upper town, a quiet street lined with historic buildings. Built in the 19th century, it preserves an older core within its walls. The three-storey structure faces the road with a simple, symmetrical front of five windows. Two dormer windows break the roofline, and a small gable once held a lifting mechanism. Protected as a listed monument, it reflects the town’s layered past. Architecturally it belongs to the middle-class homes of the 19th century. The central hallway runs from front door to rear courtyard, typical of the period. Its modest scale and unadorned facade show how ordinary citizens built in the town centre. The preserved lift opening hints at adaptations over time. Neighbouring houses share similar proportions, creating a coherent streetscape. Inside, the layout remains largely intact, with rooms arranged along the hallway. Original floorboards and door frames survive under later paint. The rear wall shows where a small service courtyard once stood. From the upper windows, views stretch over the rooftops toward Lake Constance. The building quietly testifies to Bregenz’s growth beyond its medieval core.
