Cambridge Muslim College

Cambridge Muslim College stands in central Cambridge on St Paul’s Road. Its main building, Unity House, was designed in 1847 by Sir George Gilbert Scott. The college occupies a former vicarage that includes a large front office, two ground-floor teaching rooms, a refectory and a kitchen. Upstairs are the library, a prayer room and offices for the chief executive, dean and research fellows. Adjoining almshouses house the college’s Arabic book collections. The college was founded in 2009 by Timothy Winter, also known as Shaykh Abdal Hakim Murad. Winter is the Shaykh Zayed Lecturer in Islamic Studies at the University of Cambridge. In 2023 and 2024 Joel Hayward served as Chief Executive, listed among the world’s five hundred most influential Muslims. The college is accredited by the British Accreditation Council and offers a one-year diploma and a three-year BA in Islamic Studies. Visitors find a diploma programme that mixes philosophy, world religions and British constitutional history. The library holds classical texts alongside modern scholarship. The prayer room serves daily worship and quiet study. The refectory provides space for meals and conversation. The surrounding street is quiet, lined with historic buildings.
