Glendullan distillery

Glendullan distillery stands beside the River Fiddich in Dufftown, Moray, within the Speyside region famous for single malt Scotch whisky. Built in 1897 by William Williams, it began life as a modest plant and grew over the decades. In 1972 a second distillery opened next door, running alongside the original until the older site closed in 1985. Today the whole operation belongs to Diageo, one of the world’s largest spirits companies. The distillery draws its water from Conval Hill springs and uses three wash stills and three spirit stills. Most of its spirit goes into Diageo’s blended whiskies, though a few official single malts have appeared over the years. Recent releases include 12-, 15- and 18-year-old expressions in the Singleton series. These limited editions give a taste of Glendullan’s character without dominating the site’s output. Visitors find a working distillery set among the gentle hills of Speyside. The stills and tun rooms sit beside the original buildings, while the newer plant from 1972 blends seamlessly into the landscape. The river runs close by, adding to the quiet charm of the place. A modest visitor area offers a glimpse of the process and the chance to sample the whisky that carries Glendullan’s name across the world.
