Braid Hills

The Braid Hills rise on the south-western edge of Edinburgh, a stretch of open land above the city’s terraced streets and detached villas. The Braid Hills Hotel stands on a rise above Pentland Terrace and Comiston Road, looking down on the park across the road. To the east the ground slopes toward Liberton, while to the north and west lie Morningside and Comiston. The Braid Burn flows nearby, and the name also appears on the Hermitage of Braid woodland park just beyond the golf course. The hills are best known for their golf course and the wide views it offers of the city. In winter families bring children to sledges on the slopes, and a riding stables east of the course arranges pony trekking toward Liberton. The Braid Burn runs through the valley below, and the Hermitage of Braid park lies close by with its woodland paths. Visitors find open grassland, a golf course with long fairways, and the Braid Hills Hotel at the top. The hotel overlooks the park and the city beyond. Nearby paths lead into the Hermitage of Braid woodland, where shaded trails follow the Braid Burn. The riding stables offer rides toward Liberton, and in winter the same slopes fill with sledges and laughter.
