Hoher Aderscheitel

The Hoher Aderscheitel is a mountain summit in the Venedigergruppe range in East Tyrol. It stands at 3,201 metres above sea level and belongs to the Maurerkamm ridge. The peak lies west of Prägraten am Großvenediger in the Hohe Tauern National Park. Nearby glaciers include the Umbalkees to the north and the smaller Gubachkees to the south. The Aderscheitelkamm ridge connects it to the Essener Eck and the Malhamspitzen. The climb is a mountaineering route graded I, starting from the Clarahütte hut. Walkers follow the Isel valley northwards before turning onto steep sections fed by eastern streams. Above these, the unmarked path crosses northwards over easy ground to reach the Essener Eck. From there the route follows the ridge with short climbing moves to the Niederer Aderscheitel and then the summit. The same ridge continues to the Südliche Malhamspitze. On the summit ridge the views extend across the Venediger peaks and the surrounding glaciers. The route demands sure-footedness and a head for heights but no technical equipment beyond a rope for the short climbing sections. The climb is rarely crowded, offering a quiet alpine experience. The descent retraces the ascent line back to the Clarahütte.
