Goodwood Circuit

Goodwood Circuit is a motorsport venue in West Sussex. It sits on the Goodwood House estate near Chichester, surrounding Chichester/Goodwood Airport. The track is 3.809 kilometres long and dates from 1948. It was built on the perimeter of a former RAF airfield used during the Second World War. The circuit is not the same as the nearby hillclimb course first used in 1936. The circuit became famous for early Formula One and sports car races. Stirling Moss won the first 500 cc race here in 1948. The Glover Trophy and Tourist Trophy races drew top drivers in the 1950s and early 1960s. Stirling Moss also set a lap record of over 95 mph in 1951 before the track was changed. The original chicane was rebuilt after an accident in the 1970s and restored in the late 1990s. Many racing legends, including Jim Clark and Graham Hill, raced here in their early careers. Visitors today see classic car and motorcycle events like the Goodwood Revival. Historic aircraft fly overhead to match the vintage atmosphere. The Revival brings back cars and bikes from the 1948–1966 era. Other events include the Mongol Rally start, Greenpower school races, and monthly Breakfast Club meets. The track has also hosted world cycling championships and film crews. The surroundings include the Goodwood House estate and nearby countryside.
