Goodwood plant

The Goodwood plant stands on a 42-acre site near Westhampnett in West Sussex, surrounded by the rolling hills of the South Downs. It serves as the headquarters, design, manufacturing and assembly centre for Rolls-Royce Motor Cars. The plant opened in 2003 after BMW acquired the rights to the Rolls-Royce brand and needed a new location. Architect Sir Nicholas Grimshaw designed the facility to blend with its rural setting, hiding it from the road behind a 3.5-hectare living roof covered in sedum plants. The site also features 400,000 plants and over 120 species of trees, along with limestone and cedar cladding on the buildings. It lies within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, which limits further expansion. The plant employs over 1,700 workers and produces around twenty cars each day. Since opening, it has manufactured several models, including the Ghost, Phantom VIII, Cullinan and Spectre. Earlier models produced here include the Phantom VII, Phantom Drophead Coupé, Phantom Coupé, Wraith and Dawn. A separate Technology and Logistics Centre in Bognor Regis supports production by handling logistics, storage and distribution. The TLC opened in 2016 and will soon expand to match the footprint of the Goodwood plant. Visitors to the site see a modern industrial complex carefully designed to respect its surroundings. The living roof and extensive planting reduce its visual impact on the landscape. Inside, the plant houses advanced manufacturing facilities where each Rolls-Royce car is hand-built. The nearby Technology and Logistics Centre manages the flow of parts and completed vehicles. The setting, just off the Goodwood Circuit and close to Westhampnett village, offers a quiet contrast to the luxury cars produced within.
