Steffl Arena

The Steffl Arena stands in Vienna’s 22nd district, a modern indoor sporting arena built for ice sports. Its three rinks host ice hockey, figure skating and public skating sessions throughout the year. The Vienna Capitals, the city’s professional ice hockey team, play their home games here. The building also adapts to other sports such as handball, volleyball, basketball and tennis. Major renovations in 2010 and 2011 raised its capacity from 4,500 to more than 7,000 spectators. The arena’s audio-visual system was installed by Slovakia’s ColosseoEAS to meet the needs of different sports. The halls can switch quickly between ice hockey matches and volleyball tournaments. This flexibility makes the venue one of the most adaptable in Austria. The upgrades also improved lighting and sound for large events. Inside, visitors find bright, wide concourses that lead to seating tiers surrounding each rink. The main hall seats over seven thousand people for ice hockey games. Smaller halls on the same site offer space for training or community skating. Outside, the arena sits among residential blocks and tram lines, linking it easily to the city centre.
